Número UNO

Our first attempt at constructing the mousetrap car. Unfortunately, when launched, this happened:

  1. The car was initially built using hallow pens as axels and eye hooks that did not close completely around the pen to connect the axels to the mouse trap itself. Once the trap was set off the force of the trap caused the back axel (pen) to pop out of the eye hooks causing the car to collapse and not go anywhere. Another problem that was encountered was that when the eye hooks were screwed into the mousetrap they caused the trap to crack since the trap itself is not very thick. Once it cracked the force of the trap going off caused the eye hooks to pop out of the mousetrap making it impossible for the car to go anywhere. Another obstacle was that the initial string used to attach the clamp of the trap to the pen was too thin to be able to wind around back axel and then unwind when the trap was set off (to cause the car to move forward) so instead the trap could not be set off so the car did not move. The final issue with this design was that the wheels (CDs) were attached to the axel using balloons which did not stabilize the wheels enough for the car to be able to travel in a straight line or even continue without loosing a wheel. After attempting to repair the initial design with no success we decided to start over with an improved design.
