The Most Awesome Car Ever (hence the web address)

5 HOURS LATER....

We then made The Most Awesome Car Ever by using:

Aluminum drain stakes
Eye hooks that closed (so we didn't have to worry about them falling off the poles)
Tape
Gobs of glue (and by gobs, we mean like half the tube)
Soap (an old carpenter's trick)
Better string

And ta-da! This marvelous creation was born:

  1. How the final design was built:
    1. Screwed the four closed eye hooks carefully into each corner of the mousetrap using soap to prevent cracking the mousetrap (gorilla glue was added around the eye hooks as a precaution against cracking)
    2. Inserted 1 drain stake between the back two hooks and the 2nd drain stake between the front two hooks (as axels)
    3. Prevented the stakes from sliding by building up the area between the hooks with masking tape (this still allowed the axel to freely rotate inside the eye hooks)
    4. Added traction to the wheels (CDs) by covering the edges of the CDs with the rubber from balloons
    5. Attached the wheels onto the axels by building up the section of the axel that touches the wheel with masking tape to the same size as the diameter of the hole on the inside of the CD
    6. Prevented the wheels from turning by adding more tape to either side of each CD
    7. Secured a piece of thick string to the back axel with tape and then tied the other end of the string to the clamp or kill bar of the mousetrap
    8. Rolled the car backwards to wind the string around the back axel while holding the clamp of the trap back.
    9. Once the string was wound all of the way back the trap was set
    10. The trap was set off and as the clamp snapped closed the string was unwound quickly causing the trap to move forward.
